Memory. Presence. Connection.
How does a Presence work?
A Presence is a conversational experience grounded in what a person chose to tell and authorize. Its value lies in bringing us closer to those stories, with their voice, context and boundaries.
ExploreIt starts with a real story
The Creator contributes photographs, text, recordings and other Echoes. They can add dates, people, places and details that help explain each Memory.
The original source remains the reference. An answer from a Presence must not replace a recording or turn an assumption into a fact about the person's life.
Permission comes before conversation
- Ask
- The Traveler asks a question of a Presence they can access.
- Check access
- Before using a story, the person's permissions and the conditions chosen by the Creator must be checked.
- Consult the sources
- The answer is prepared using only the material authorized for that conversation.
- Answer with context
- The experience should make it possible to recognize the sources and distinguish documented information from interpretation.
What an answer can say
- A direct memory
- A source contains the answer. The conversation can bring you closer to that memory and its original material.
- A supported summary
- Several sources can form an explanation without adding facts that are not documented.
- An identified interpretation
- If an inference is offered, it must be clearly identified as an interpretation and explain which sources support it.
- An acknowledged limit
- If there is insufficient evidence or the material is not authorized, the Presence must refrain from inventing an answer.
An everyday example
Imagine asking about a family recipe. If an authorized recording exists in which the person explains how they made it, that recording can support the conversation.
If they never said who taught them the recipe, the Presence must not invent an origin story. Acknowledging that gap is part of caring for the truth of what was told.
The technology stays behind the experience
Artificial intelligence helps interpret questions and build answers from the available sources. The experience is designed to keep the person, their choices and their story at its heart.
A Presence is not the person and cannot know what was never documented. The website distinguishes the conversational demonstration with Evaristo, the private recording web app and features still in preparation.
